How do positional irregularities occur?
Irregularities can either be inherited or acquired. Most are acquired, e.g by thumbsucking or premature loss of baby teeth.
Why is treatment necessary?
- Improving your ability to chew
- Removing dirt niches to prevent tooth decay
- Improving pronunciation and facial expression
- Preventing damage to the mandibular joints
- Removing the irregularities
Duration and costs
An orthodontic treatment takes between one and two years. Fees will be payable at the start of the treatment.
Can the teeth be damaged by this treatment?
No, provided you continue to thoroughly clean your teeth. We´ll be happy to show you how oral hygiene can be handled effectively.
What is retentive treatment?
To make the effects of the treatment permanent and to prevent a relapse, a removable appliance ( called a retainer) must be worn after concluding the fixed treatment. The retainer is worn at night and for two hours every afternoon. Control appointments:
approximately every 8 to 10 weeks; the duration of the retentive treatment depends on the individual case.
There are removable and fixed appliances
Removable appliances are worn at night and can be taken out during the day ( for school, sports etc.) Treatment is painless and without negative consequences for the teeth.
Duration: approximately 3 years. The appliance should be cleaned every day ( with a brush and cleaning tabs).
Fixed appliances are metal or plastic brackets painlessly fixed to the teeth. They are not removable. We recommend soft food. The treatment´s progress should be checked on every two to three weeks.
The first step to orthodontic treatment
For an exact treatment plan, we need a panoramic x-ray, i.e. a shot of all emerged and growing teeth, and a profile x-ray of the skull. The following computer-aided analysis of these photographs provide valuable information about the growth of the jaw and the precise nature of the treatment. !XImprints of the jaw and measures of the digitized models enable us to simulate the treatment exactly.
